January 13, 2010 Meeting

What we did today:

Opening: we started our meeting in a circle, said the Girl Scout Promise and talked about ways we could be considerate & caring.

The next petal we will earn is our “Considerate & Caring” petal. Below is a list of things we will have done to earn this petal; we discussed these during our meeting.

Thanksgiving Boxes: in November we colored beautiful pictures to cover the boxes that would be used to prepare the Thanksgiving meals for the needy.

Color-A-Smile: in today’s meeting we colored pictures that will be sent to sick people who are in the hospital to help brighten their day. This is done through a program called “Color-A-Smile”. The girls colored three different pictures and included their first names and ages.

Daisy Flower: the girls brought home a Daisy Flower that needs to be filled in with acts of consideration and caring that they do at home until our next meeting. This is simliar to the “Friendly & Helpful” Daisy that they filled out to earn their yellow petal.

How does it work? Each time your little Daisy does something that is Considerate or Caring, write what they did on one of the petals of their Daisy flower. Do this until the flower is completely filled out. Send it with your Daisy to our next meeting so we can over all of the considerate & caring tasks your Daisy accomplished.

To help the Daisys remember what they did to earn each petal, I created a booklet for them to store their “Daisy Flower” in for each petal they earn. The booklet has a different color slip of paper representing the different petals they can earn. So far they have only earned their yellow “Friendly & Helpful” petal. If you still have their “Daisy Flower” tape it to the yellow paper; if you do not still have it, your Daisy can simply draw a picture representing what they did to earn that petal.

The girls really enjoy being able to discuss their Daisy Flowers with the group so please try to fill them out. They are very proud to be able to show what they accomplished to earn their petals.

What you should have received home today:

  1. The Daisy Flower to fill in with ways that your Daisy was considerate & caring
  2. The Daisy booklet to help them remember what they did to earn their petals
  3. Your cookie order form and money collecting envelopeNumbered List

our first meeting

Our first Daisy meeting was last Wednesday and went pretty well for a first meeting. The craft that I chose took a little more time than I had anticipated -- thank you so much to Rhoda & Angela for helping out during the meeting, could not have accomplished all of that without you!

During our meeting we discussed why we start and end our meetings in circles and we did some introductions. We also said the Girl Scout Promise and Law -- once the girls know the Promise they will earn the center to their Daisy. I also gave each of the girls a "Good Deed Daisy" and we discussed what good deeds are. The girls were told to do good deeds until our next meeting and have someone write the good deeds on the petals of their daisy. This goes towards earning the Friendly & Helpful petal. I hope the girls had a lot of fun doing this...Samantha had SO much fun and had hers filled up within the first two days and we are not working on the back. I think I will have the girls do the good deed daisy every meeting...it might help get their rooms cleaned!!

Our activity -- for the activity each girl had a bag with foam beads that had the first initial of their first name on it. The point of the activity was to go to each girl, ask eachother a question and exchange a foam bead. In the end each girl should have ended up with all of her Daisy friend's initials on her necklace...this was a little bit confusing and didn't quite work out as planned. Due to time issues we sent the necklaces home for the girls to string the beads on there.

Our next meeting is the 28th and we will be doing some Halloween crafts! Should be a fun, less stressful activity.

I hope all of the girls had fun, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

first meeting

Our first meeting will be held October 14th during lunch. There was a misprint in this week's Kindergarten newsletter that stated the first meeting would be September 23rd.

During our first meeting we will work on learning the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law. Once the girls have learned the Girl Scout Promise they will earn their blue center of the Daisy flower.Throughout the course of our Daisy meetings we will work on different activities that will teach the girls the meaning of the different petals...upon learning/understanding each they will earn a petal. Each petal represents part of the Girl Scout Law.
